Will NEET Have Limited Attempts

Recently, the Education Minister of India, Dharmendra Pradhan, said that the government plans to make some changes to many entrance exams, including NEET UG. As the statement came out, everyone started to speculate about the changes. One of these speculations is the rule of limited attempts in NEET UG. However, no one knows how authentic this rumour is. But will NEET have limited attempts in the future?

The answer to this question is in the womb of the future. But this question and these speculations left all the NEET UG aspirants worried, as it would be one of the significant changes in NEET if it happened. Undoubtedly, the limited attempts in NEET UG will hugely impact the entire NEET equation.

Preface of the Limited Attempts in NEET UG

Before diving into the article and know will NEET have limited attempts or not, it is compulsory to know from where the limited NEET attempts theory came. So, let’s figure it out.

You know the NEET UG 2024 case, which was heard in the Supreme Court. The jury formed a committee to suggest mandatory changes in NEET to maintain the exam’s serenity in the future. This committee was named K Radhakrishna, whose members were former Indian ISRO chief Dr Randeep Guleria, former director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi; B.J. Rao, vice-chancellor, University of Hyderabad.

This committee suggested some changes in NEET UG, including limited attempts in NEET UG. The committee believes that if there are limited attempts, the number of applicants will be decreased, which will help maintain the decorum of the NEET UG exam. Moreover, the committee said that the NEET UG should be conducted twice a year, and the mode of the examination should be online.

Nonetheless, all other changes except the limited attempts will not impact the aspirants. However, the impacts will be positive and negative. Let’s know about both these two sides of limited attempts for NEET UG.

Benefits of Limited Attempts in NEET UG

  1. One of the benefits of limited attempts in NEET UG will be the reduced competition.
  2. Limited attempts will simplify the admission process and reduce administrative burden.
  3. In case of failure in multiple attempts, students will be able to consider alternative career options quickly.
  4. It will lead to a more balanced age group presence in medical colleges.
  5. Limited attempts will make the examination process more efficient and manageable.

Drawbacks of Limited Attempts in NEET UG

  1. Limited attempts may pressure aspirants to perform well in the initial attempts.
  2. Students with lesser exposure to NEET will not get enough opportunities to prepare themselves.
  3. Limited opportunities may lead to a lack of confidence and increased fear of exams in students.

Government Stand on Suggested Changes By Committee

The committee submitted the report earlier in October 2024, but there was no official statement from the Government or the Supreme Court on these changes. However, recently, during the inauguration of the Hightech Education Workshop, Dharmendra Pradhan, Ministry of Education, said that the Central Government is planning to apply the committee-suggested changes for various entrance exams so that entrance exams can be conducted more transparently.

Will NEET Have Limited Attempts in Future?

Now, after the committee’s suggestions and the Government’s statement, aspiring aspirants are looking for confirmation on NEET’s limited attempts and want to know if there will be limited attempts for NEET in the future.

As per the government’s mood on suggested changes in NEET, NEET UG will probably have limited attempts in the future. However, no official source claims these changes as of now.

How Many Attempts Will Be in NEET?

Another query students face is how many attempts NEET will have if the limited attempt rule is applied in NEET. Firstly, there is no official number of the limited attempts. But, according to the expert’s analysis of PCP Sikar, there may be four attempts at NEET UG in the future.

Will These Changes Be Applied From NEET 2025?

If the NTA makes these changes, will they be applied from the NEET 2025 edition? The answer is yes. As you all know, the official notification for NEET UG 2025 has yet to come out. So, if NTA, the government, approves these changes, NTA will probably enforce these changes starting in NEET 2025. And you might see the NEET UG 2025 with limited attempts.

Other Suggested Changed in NEET by Committee

The limited attempts rule was the most significant change on the list of changes the K Radhakrishna Committee suggested. Other potential changes might occur in the NEET UG exam procedure. These suggested changes are:

  1. The NEET UG exam should have multiple stages.
  2. There should be a hybrid model; it should be conducted in offline and online both modes.
  3. Cameras and AI algorithms should monitor the exam centres.
  4. The data security in NEET UG should be enhanced.
