The buzz around the exam mode of NEET UG is constant. Every year, aspirants hope for the online exam mode, but it remains the same since it was introduced. The demand has increased after the NEET 2024 controversy, as experts suggested not to conduct the exam in online mode. NTA & NMC didn’t pay attention to it in 2025. This year, aspirants have the same question to NTA, NMC, and the Government: Will NEET UG 2026 be online?
There is currently no update on this topic. However, it is the start of the 2026 session of NEET UG, it is too early to expect any update on the NEET 2026 exam mode.
You might be surprised why students ask this question and hope for it even though there is no hint and it has been the same since the exam started. To understand this, you have to go back to the flashback of the NEET UG 2024 controversy.
Why Aspirants Ask for Online NEET Exam?
Although aspirants have been demanding online exams for a long time, the demand increased after the 2024 NEET controversy. Following the NEET 2024 incident, the Supreme Court established the K. Radhakrishnan committee.
This committee suggested some suggestions, and the online exam mode suggestion was one of them. The committee said that there will be less chance of the paper leak and cheating in the online exam compared to the offline exam.
After this committee report, the demand for the online NEET exam increased.
Even the Government agreed to the changes and promised to implement them in the NEET 2025. But when the official notification came, nothing changed, and the NEET 2025 exam was conducted offline.
Now, regarding NEET 2026, some aspirants and experts are expecting it to be conducted in online mode. That is why all the aspirants are asking if NEET 2026 will be in online mode or not.

Will NEET 2026 be Online?
Most likely, the NEET 2026 will not be conducted online, as NTA could have done so in the 2025 NEET attempt as well. Therefore, if NTA did not do this at the time the government agreed to it, then this issue is now resolved. So, now the question does not arise that there should be any change in the exam mode of NEET, and NEET 2026 will be in online mode.
Still, there is one situation when NTA can change the NEET exam mode from offline to online. Let’s talk about this.
In What Situation would NEET 2026 be Online?
As we discussed, the Government had agreed to implement the suggested change and do the NEET Exam online. But, all these things were happening in the mid-session, where there was less time, and the NEET 2025 exam date was too close.
In this short time, it was quite difficult to make a sudden change, and NTA, NMC, or the Government decided to postpone the changes to be implemented in 2026.
If this were the case, then there is a good chance that NEET 2026 will be conducted online; otherwise, it would be a waste of time and energy to consider the online exam mode for NEET 2026. However, many other changes in NEET 2026 are lined up that you must be aware of.
Challenges in NEET UG Online Mode
As we talked earlier, NEET UG is one of the most celebrated exams in India. Lakhs of aspirants participate in the exam, which is conducted in one day, as there is a single question paper for all the aspirants.
Now, because the exam is conducted in a day, it is next to impossible to manage around 25 lakh computers in one day. It will be the biggest challenge if NEET moves towards online mode.
Solution
The only solution to this problem is that the NEET exam should be conducted in multiple shifts and days like other online entrance exams, including JEE.
