For the past several months, there has been speculation that the CBSE is going to make significant changes to its board examination system. What is the Two Time CBSE 10th Board Exam Rule?

CBSE’s Two-Time Board Exam system means that the board exams of class 10 (and possibly 12 in the future) will be conducted twice a year. This rule will take effect from 2026, and under it, students will have the option to demonstrate better performance across the two opportunities.

According to the Two Times CBSE 10th Board Exam Rule;

• The first exam (Phase 1) is compulsory for all students and will be held in February–March each year.
• The second exam (Phase 2) will be optional and it will be held in May.

Students can take both exams if they wish, but their final result will be based on the exam in which they have higher marks. This will give students less stress and provide them with an opportunity to score better.

CBSE has made it clear that from 2026, the board exams for class 10 will be conducted twice a year and the timing of both the phases will be pre-determined so that students get enough time to prepare.

First Phase Timing of 10th CBSE Two Times Exam 

• The exam will start from the first Tuesday after February 15 every year.
• This phase will run till the first week of March.
• This exam will be compulsory for all students.

Second Phase Timing of CBSE Two Times Exam 

• This exam will be conducted between May 5 and May 20.
• It is optional to participate in it – students who are dissatisfied with their first attempt or want to improve their score can participate in it.

The full syllabus will be covered in both these exams, and the practical exam will be taken only once, the score of which will be valid for both attempts.

Timetable and flexibility of subjects

CBSE has designed the board exam schedule in such a way that students get a fair opportunity to appear for the exams in both phases. Exams for core subjects — Mathematics, Science, Social Science, English, and Hindi — will be conducted on predetermined dates. This arrangement ensures that there is no confusion in the exams of core subjects, and students can plan their preparation in advance.

What will be the system of practical examination in the two-time CBSE board exam?

Under the CBSE’s two-time board exam system, there will be no duplication in the process of practical and internal assessment. Students will have to give a practical examination only once, whether they appear in one board exam or both. This system will save both time and energy for the students.

The score of the practical, which will be recorded for the first time, will be the same score for both stages. That is, if the students also appear in the second board exam (May), they will not have to give the practical again. This change simplifies and streamlines the examination process, making it stress-free and more consistent and transparent.
