The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) issued an important circular on May 26, 2025, sharing information about the supplementary examination for regular students of classes 10th and 12th in 2025. This circular is very important for students who have either failed a compartment or want to improve their marks.
What is CBSE Improvement Exam 2025
The CBSE Improvement Exam 2025 is a special opportunity offered to students who have passed the CBSE main examination 2025 but are not satisfied with their marks and wish to improve them. With the help of the CBSE Improvement exam, students can re-appear in the examination only in those subjects which are included in the list prescribed by CBSE (Annexure-5(A) and Annexure-5(B)).
Note – Annexure-5(A) and Annexure-5(B) are the lists of subjects released by CBSE in which class 12 and 10 students can appear in the performance improvement or supplementary examination 2025, respectively. Only these listed subjects are allowed for examination. Hence, it is important to study these lists carefully while selecting the subject.
This exam is mainly for two categories:
Class 12 students:
Students who have passed the main examination of 2025 can take the Improvement Exam in one subject.
Additionally, students who passed the examination in 2024 with 6 subjects but failed in one subject can retake the exam to improve their performance in that subject.
Class 10 students:
Students who have passed the Main exam 2025 or those who have passed the exam due to subject change are eligible for performance improvement in a maximum of two subjects (limited to the subjects listed by CBSE).
The purpose of this exam is to provide students with another opportunity to improve their board exam marks, enabling them to submit higher marks for college entrance or competitive exams in the future.
CBSE Improvement Exam 2025 Registration Date
According to the press note released by CBSE, online registration (List of Candidates ā LOC) for the Supplementary Exam 2025 will commence on 30th May 2025. This process will be done through CBSE’s Pariksha Sangam portal (https://cbse.gov.in). Schools will be able to fill in the students’ details online using their affiliation number and password.
Last Date to Register for CBSE Improvement Exam 2025: The registration process will last till 17th June 2025. If anyone registers after the last date, there will be extra charges for the candidates registering on 18th and 19th June 2025.
Eligibility for CBSE Improvement Exam 2025
Class 12th & 10th have different eligibility for the examination, which are as follows;
Class 12th:
Compartment students ā Students who failed in one or two subjects in the 2025 Main exam can appear for a supplementary exam in one subject.
Students seeking performance improvement ā āāStudents who have passed the 2025 exam can appear for improvement in one subject (only in the subjects given in Annexure-5(A)).
Students with 6 subjects in 2024 ā Those who failed in one subject are eligible for improvement in that subject.
Class 10th:
Compartment students ā Students who failed in one or two subjects in the 2025 Main exam can appear for the supplementary exam in those subjects.
Performance improvement ā āāPassed students can appear for improvement in a maximum of two subjects (only in the subjects given in Annexure-5(B)).
Mathematics Subject Change ā Students can switch between Mathematics Standard (041) and Basic (241).
Third Chance (Private Candidates) ā Students who failed the 2024 main exam and were unable to clear the first two chances (2024 and 2025) can apply for the third and final chance as private candidates only.
CBSE Improvement Exam 2025 Exam Date And SyllabusĀ
Class 12th Exam Date: The supplementary exam will be held on a single day, Tuesday, 15th July 2025.
Class 10th Exam Date: Exams will commence from 15th July 2025, and a detailed datesheet will be released by CBSE later.
Class 10th & 12th Syllabus: The syllabus for the 2024-25 session will be valid and can be accessed on the CBSE academic website (https://cbseacademic.nic.in/curriculum_2025.html).
