On 9th March 2026, NTA released a notification regarding the extension of the NEET UG 2026 registration deadline. Earlier, the NEET UG registration was closed on 8th March 2026, but now NTA has extended the last date to register for NEET UG 2026 to 11th March 2026.

Students who haven’t registered due to server issues or final exams can now fill out the NEET UG 2026 application forms until 11th March 2026. 

In the released notification, NTA advised candidates to complete the form by the extended date and time. No further extension will be granted. 

Why NTA Extended the Deadline for NEET UG 2026 Registrations 

Although the National Testing Agency has not explicitly stated any official reason for extending the deadline, some practical reasons have emerged that are believed to have led to this decision.

1. Pressure of Board and Final Exams

Board exams are currently underway in many parts of the country. Between exam preparation and exam preparation, many students were unable to find time to apply.

2. Server congestion at the last minute

As the deadline approached, many students attempted to apply simultaneously. This led to heavy traffic on the portal, and many students encountered issues, including a busy server or a slow website.

Given these circumstances, extending the application deadline is considered a necessary and practical step for students.

The National Testing Agency has not yet officially stated that no further extensions will be granted.

However, typically, once a date is extended for such exams, further extensions are rarely granted. Therefore, students should assume that March 11, 2026, may be their last chance.

Before the NEET UG 2026 registration starts, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued an important notification for students. It is a NEET UG 2026 Documents Readiness alert for the students who are preparing for the upcoming NEET UG attempt. 

Ignoring this update regarding NEET UG 2026 documents could have serious consequences. This notification is not related to the exam date, syllabus, or application form dates, but rather to the papers on which the NEET UG 2026 application and the entire subsequent process will depend.

Every year, a large number of students, despite scoring well, face problems during counselling, category benefit claims, or verification due to document mismatches. To prevent such issues, the NTA has issued this advance alert.

• Candidate’s full name (including spelling)
• Date of Birth

• Photograph on the Aadhaar card
• Current address
• Biometric information (where applicable)

This information is directly matched with the Aadhaar database during the NEET application process. Even a slight discrepancy in a name or date of birth can lead to verification issues later.

What if your Adhaar Card is not updated or has Mistakes?

• Aadhaar updates are not implemented everywhere immediately.

• If it has expired, it has been renewed on time.

The facilities and reservations provided to PwD candidates during NEET are entirely dependent on the validity of the UDID Card. Any discrepancy in this regard may lead to problems later on.

This is possible in JEE Main because it is a computer-based test (CBT), in which an on-screen calculator is technically available. Therefore, until NEET moves to online mode, providing a calculator is technically impossible.

2. Risk of Cheating and Unfair Advantage in the Case of Physical Calculator 

Now that it’s not possible to use an on-screen exam, some students are thinking that offline physical calculators should also be allowed. Any type of physical calculator is an electronic device. While simple, modern calculators contain technologies such as data storage, programmable memory, or Bluetooth chips. This poses the risk that a student could store formulas, data, or notes in advance or send information wirelessly.

NTA aims to ensure equal opportunities for all students. Therefore, any kind of physical calculator is not allowed in NEET.

3. Less Requirement of a Calculator in NEET 

Another primary reason why NTA doesn’t allow calculators in NEET is that the NEET question paper has a significantly different format from the JEE. NEET is primarily a biology-centric exam, with 90 questions from the biology subject. Apart from this, 45 questions of Physics and 45 questions of Chemistry are asked. In both subjects, only a few questions require calculation, and those are not particularly tricky or lengthy. 

Therefore, NTA believes that there is no requirement for a calculator in NEET.

Many students compare the JEE and NEET, but the nature of these two exams is entirely different.

JEE Main / Advanced:

NEET:

• It is a medical entrance exam.

In an exam like NEET, approximately 2.5 million students appear at various centres across the country. If calculators are allowed, the task of checking, model verification, and preventing misuse at each centre will become extremely difficult.

This logistical complexity poses a challenge for NTA from both security and time perspectives. Therefore, allowing calculators is not possible.

Will Calculator be Allowed in NEET 2026 or in Future?

No, a calculator will not be allowed in NEET 2026 or in the near future, as the NEET exam is conducted offline. Therefore, allowing an on-screen calculator is not even possible. As for physical calculators, any kind of electronic device can’t be allowed due to security risks; this is also not possible. 

Moreover, most NEET questions are from biology and chemistry, where calculations are minimal. Even the few calculations that do occur in physics are not complex enough to require a calculator.

Recently, the National Testing Agency (NTA) stated in its information bulletin dated October 31st, 2025, that screen calculators would be allowed in JEE Main. However, today, the NTA has withdrawn its order, citing it as a typing error. In this regard, the NTA has issued a press note stating that no calculator allowed in JEE Mains. Furthermore, NTA said that 

“The information regarding the permission of calculators was issued in error. It was a typographical error. Calculators of any kind will not be permitted in JEE Main 2026.”

Brief About NTA’s Press Note on ‘No Calculator Allowed in JEE Mains’ Rule

On 3rd November 2025, NTA released a press note about the revision of the JEE Main 2026 information bulletin and taking back the on-screen calculator rule. 

This press note clarifies that this feature was part of NTA’s test platform, which may be incorporated into any other entrance exam, but will not be applied to JEE Mains 2026 and subsequent exams. 

NTA added that any form of the calculator is completely prohibited in the JEE Mains examination. 

Revised JEE Main 2026 Information Bulletin Released 

The information bulletin for JEE Mains 2026, released on 31st October 2025, has been updated with a new order stating that no calculator is allowed in JEE Main 2026. 

Students who will appear in the examination can review the bulletin to confirm all the details again. However, no changes have been made except for the calculator rule. The rest of the information is exactly the same as the last one: the same application dates, the same result date, the same syllabus, etc.

NTA Clearly Said, Calculator Will Not be Allowed in JEE Mains 2026

Aspirants who are going to appear in the JEE Mains 2026, please note that the calculator rule is now cancelled, and there will be no on-screen calculator in JEE Mains 2026.

This means that you will have to perform all calculations yourself during the exam, as they did previously.

Also, as before, no electronic devices (mobile phones, smartwatches, laptops, digital devices) will be allowed to be carried or used in the exam centre.

This decision by the NTA has been taken to ensure transparency and fairness in the exam, so that every student has the opportunity to score based on their hard work and understanding.

It will be operated with the help of a mouse and keyboard, where the data entries will be through the keyboard and calculation commands through the mouse. This on-screen calculator will have an interface similar to the standard Windows Calculator, but only basic calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, square roots, etc.) can be performed.

Features of the Calculator in JEE Mains 2026

It is essential to familiarise yourself with the features of the on-screen calculator to avoid confusion during the exam. This calculator will be similar to the Windows Standard Calculator and will have the following features:

1. (+, −, ×, ÷) — Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division

These four are the most common mathematical operations. You can use them in any type of basic calculation.

For example, if you want to find 25 × 4, simply press 25, then “×”, then 4, and finally “=”.

This will instantly give you the answer 100.

2. √ (Square Root) — To find the square root

This button is used to find the square root of a number. This feature is very useful in physics and math problems, where finding square roots is common.

For example, if you want to find the square root of 49, type 49 and press √ — the result is 7.

3. % (Percentage) — To find percentages

This button helps you find the percentage of a number. This button is especially useful in chemistry and physics problems where calculating percentages is required.

For example, if you want to find 10% of 200, type 200 × 10%, which will give you 20.

4. 1/x (Reciprocal) — To find the reciprocal

In JEE mains, many times in exams, you have to calculate reciprocals, for that you will use this feature.

For example, if you typed “4” and then pressed “1/x,” the result would be “0.25.”

5. (Decimal) — To add decimals

This basic button will also be available to add a decimal to the number during calculation, such as 3.14, 2.718, or 0.005.

Accurate decimal usage is crucial in numerical-type JEE questions so this button will be crucial.

6. MS (Memory Save) — To save a number

Suppose you calculated “3.67” in a step and need to use that value again, you can save it by pressing “MS.”

This button saves a number to the calculator’s memory, allowing you to use it again later.

7. M+ (Memory Add) — To add a number to memory.

If you already have a number saved in memory and now want to add a new value to it, press “M+.”

For example, if 5 is saved in memory and you want to add 3, pressing M+ will change the new memory value to 8.

8. MR (Memory Recall) — To view a saved number.

This button displays the number you previously saved with “MS.” This saves you from having to retype the same number repeatedly.

This button saves time when you perform multiple steps in long problems.

9. CE (Clear Entry) — To delete the last entry.

If you typed a wrong number, pressing “CE” will erase only that entry. This will keep the rest of the calculation intact, and you won’t have to start over.

10. C (Clear All) — To clear the entire calculation.

This button clears the entire screen. This means all entries and operations made so far will be erased, and you can start a new calculation.

2. Operating the mouse can be time-consuming: This will be the major disadvantage of the Calculator in JEE Main 2026; students will have to repeatedly click the mouse to operate the on-screen calculator, which can take some time. Keyboard entry is still faster, but using the mouse will be inconvenient for many students—especially when the time limit is strict.

3. Difficult calculations likely in the paper: As we understand the benefits of the calculator in JEE Main, NTA will now focus more on concepts in the paper. This move also suggests that the calculations in question may be more complex than before. Because if NTA has provided the calculator facility, it means that questions will contain some heavy numbers or complex numerical problems.

How to Use Calculator in JEE Main 2026?

Since this is a new feature, students are worried about how they will use the Calculator in JEE Mains 2026. Hence, for all aspiring JEE aspirants, here is the complete guide on how to use calculator in JEE Main 2026. 

When the exam starts, you will see a calculator icon on your computer screen. Whenever you have to use the calculator in the JEE exam, you have to tap on this icon. The calculator will appear on the screen. 

Well, to use a calculator in JEE Mains 2026, you have to follow these steps; 

1. Simply, you have to enter the values you want to calculate and give a command with the help of the mouse and then tap on the ‘=’ button. 
2. Along with the basic calculations, you can use it for finding the Root or 1/* of any mathematical term. 
3. On the top side of the calculator, you will see buttons: MS (Memory Save), MR (Memory Recall). You can use the MS button to save any calculation result, and MR to view the saved calculation. 
4. It has two additional buttons, C and CE, which are used for clearing entries. The ‘C’ is for removing the whole entry, and the ‘CE’ is to clear the most recent entry done on the calculator.
