Mistakes to Avoid in JEE Main 2026 Form

The JEE Main 2026 January Session is approaching, and millions of students across the country are preparing to fill out the forms, as the JEE Main official notification was released on October 30, 2025. Filling out the forms seems easy, but this is actually the step where thousands of students make mistakes. And today’s article is all about these mistakes to avoid in JEE Main form.

You might ignore it, but a small spelling mistake, choosing the wrong category, or uploading the wrong photo can later become serious problems when it comes to admission cards, exam centre allotment, or counselling. Therefore, students must exercise utmost caution when filling out the JEE Main form.

This is the most common mistake in the JEE Main form.

Most students:

  • Misspell their name
  • Mismatch the spelling on their 10th marksheet
  • Autocorrect changes their name

Keep your 10th marksheet in front of you and write the exact same spelling—not a single letter should be different.

When selecting a category in the dropdown, many students mistakenly:

  • Forgot to select OBC-NCL instead of OBC
  • Mix up General and EWS
  • Make the wrong selection in the PwD category

Select a category only after reviewing your valid caste/category certificate.

Many students upload EWS certificates that are years old. But the NTA only accepts EWS certificates for the current financial year.

Get a new EWS certificate before completing the form.

This is also one of the most common mistakes. Students often:

  • Upload an old photo
  • Upload a photo with a dark or shadowy background.
  • The signature is unclear.
  • The file size does not meet the NTA format

Upload a recent passport photo and a clear, black-pen signature, as per NTA guidelines.

When choosing an exam city, many students:

  • Choose a city based on your friends’ preferences.
  • Choose a city far from home
  • Order their preferences incorrectly.

Choose a city that is travel-friendly for you.

  • Entering your parents’ number:
  • The optional OTP is missed.
  • Important admit card updates are not received

Always enter your active mobile number and email address.

A common mistake is that students fill and submit the form in just 10–15 minutes.

This results in many incorrect details.

Important: Not all fields are editable in the correction window.

Allow at least 45–60 minutes to fill out the form and double-check each page.

Students often:

  • Missing the PIN code
  • Interchange the present and permanent address
  • Write the address in the short form

When entering the address, fill it in according to your ID proof or Aadhaar card.

The server is busy on the deadline day, and payments fail.

Issue:

  • Form appears incomplete
  • Payment stuck or refund delayed

Make the fee payment at least 2–3 days in advance and download the confirmation page.
