Will JEE Advanced 2025 Cutoff Decrease

With JEE Advanced 2025 approaching quickly, students have been worried about the exam’s difficulty and the cutoff. Questions like “Will JEE Advanced 2025 Cutoff Decrease?” are on the rise, making it essential to eliminate any doubts regarding the cutoff.

Before answering this question, we will examine the Cutoff for JEE Advanced and why it is important. Then, we can look at the expectations for the JEE Advanced 2025 Cutoff and learn more about the factors that affect it.

What is “Cutoff”? And Why is it Important?

When discussing competitive exams like JEE Advanced, the cutoff is the minimum required marks/percentage to pass the exam. There are a few things to understand when talking about the cutoff for competitive exams:

  • The cutoff for any given exam is only fixed after the evaluations are over.
  • Usually, cutoff marks are used in competitive exams like NEET and JEE.
  • Different boards have different factors that decide the cutoff for an exam.

The boards need a cutoff with hundreds of thousands of students appearing for these competitive exams. As there are limited seats in colleges like IITs, these cutoffs are used to set a minimum requirement for students. Only by clearing the cutoff marks will a student be able to apply for the institute they want.

In the case of JEE Advanced, it is essential to note that the exam has a minimum cutoff for passing it. However, the different institutes have their own minimum cutoff. This means that if you want to apply for IIT Bombay, you would need to clear the cutoff for IIT Bombay. The same applies to any institute you wish to apply to.

Will JEE Advanced 2025 Cutoff Decrease?

Now that we know how the Cutoff works, let’s look at the answer to our main question: Will JEE Advanced 2025 Cutoff Decrease? There’s a high chance that the cutoff might not decrease. There are many reasons for the cutoff for JEE Advanced. When looking at just one major reason, student participation, you can guess why the cutoff might not decrease.

So it is highly unlikely that the cutoff will decrease, But when will students get to know about it? As mentioned above, the cutoff is announced after the exam evaluations are over. And in the case of JEE Advanced, the JOSAA will release the JEE Advanced 2025 cutoff along with or after the results are released.

JEE Advanced 2025 Expected Cutoff

What can the expected cutoff for JEE Advanced 2025 be if it won’t decrease? One way to have a good guess is to look at the previous year’s cutoff. In this case, we will look at the 2024 cutoff for JEE Advanced.

Last year, the JEE Advanced 2024 cutoff was:

  • 35% (109) for the general category
  • 31.5% (98) for OBC-NCL/EWS
  • and 17.5% (54) for SC/ST/PwD candidates

Because the cutoff rarely changes drastically, the JEE Advanced 2025 cutoff might be in the same range as last year. Before you ask how can we be sure about it, have a look down below.

JEE Cutoff 2024, 2023 and 2022 Analysis

The numbers for the JEE Mains of the past 5 years are given below. While these are cutoffs for JEE Mains, the trend is generally the same for Advanced. You can see that the cutoff in the previous 5 years hasn’t changed much when compared to the year right before or after it.

While 2021 and 2022 cutoffs were lower, those were also the years of the pandemic. So an obvious decrease in student participation led to a decrease in cutoff. Now, why compare the JEE Mains cutoff for JEE Advanced? The reason is that JEE advanced is tougher, but they still have the same major factors affecting the JEE Advanced cutoff.

Factors Affecting JEE Advanced 2025 Cutoff

We know that the JEE Advanced 2025 cutoff probably won’t decrease. We also know how to guess what the cutoff can be. So, now we can look at the main factors affecting the JEE Advanced 2025 Cutoff. This will also help you understand the reason why the cutoff did not decrease. In fact, there’s a high chance for it to increase by a few percent.

1. Competition:

It is almost common knowledge now that more and more students appear for JEE Advanced every year. Rising competition in JEE Advanced means selecting the best from an increasing number of aspirants.

Another reason competition affects the cutoff can be the seat limit. As mentioned above, a minimum cutoff exists to ensure that the number of seats in institutes is sufficient to accommodate them. In the case of highly sought-after institutes, there are very limited seats.

2. Paper Difficulty:

Another factor affecting the JEE Advanced 2025 cutoff is the difficulty of the paper. The cutoff can rise or fall depending on how tough the paper is during your shift. If it’s easy, the cutoff will increase. And if the paper is tough, the cutoff will decrease.

Most of the time, if the competition seems too intense, the institute might make the paper really tough. A tough paper means that fewer students get high marks, and the institutes get a clear view of the best students in the batch. However, the difficulty of the paper reduces the cutoff, allowing more smart and hard-working students to qualify.

3. The Role of NTA:

The role of the NTA is quite crucial, as they have to balance the different shifts. Whether the difficulty level is consistent across all shifts or not can determine if the JEE Advanced 2025 cutoff will decrease or not.

For example, if the NTA can balance/stabilise the difficulty of all shifts in JEE Advanced, there could be two outcomes. The first is that the cutoff might stay stable. It could be the same as last year or have tiny variations.

The second outcome is that the difficulty is consistent between the shifts. This leads to a slight decrease in Cutoff compared to the previous year.

Conclusion

So, will the JEE Advanced 2025 Cutoff decrease? Not likely. Considering how much the competition is increasing, decreasing the cutoff would mean that the exam paper would have to be much tougher than students anticipate. Looking at the previous year’s cutoffs, we can see that the cutoff is slowly rising. Although it might come down at some point, that doesn’t seem to be the case this time.

But putting that aside, no matter how much students fuss about the cutoff, it won’t help them much in their exam preparation. Use your time effectively to keep studying, and don’t worry about the cutoff.
