The last date to register for the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) UG 2025 is approaching. However, the number of registrations till now is much fewer than in the last year. Comparing the data to the recent years, NTA has registered the lowest registration in NEET UG 2025 so far.
Addressing the same issue, the NTA (National Testing Agency) issued an advisory press note regarding the slow registration speed. In the press note, the NTA advised candidates to complete the NEET UG 2025 registration process in a timely manner to avoid the last-minute rush. Moreover, the NTA reminded the last date and time for registration.
15 to 16 Lakh Registrations So Far: Shocking Number
As per various media reports, around 15 lakh registrations have been done for NEET UG 2025 so far, which is the lowest compared to the last few years track record of registrations.
Last year, the total registrations for NEET UG were 26 lakh, out of which 24 lakh candidates appeared in the examination. However, there would be more than 21 lakh registrations this year as there can’t be this much drastic drop in the registrations in a one-year time span.Â

Why Are Registrations for NEET UG 2025 the Lowest So Far?
After the advisory press note of NTA, a question is coming to everyone’s mind: Why have the registrations for NEET UG 2025 been fewer so far? Let’s understand this in a little detail.
1. Last Year’s Cutoff: We all know that the result of NEET UG 2024 was very shocking. From the NEET UG paper leak to the revised result, there were a lot of irregularities in the NEET 2024. Due to all these reasons, the cutoff of the NEET UG 2024 was much higher than regular. And the higher cutoff lowered aspirants’ moral, leading to fewer applications in the NEET UG 2025.
2. Change in the Exam Format: This year, NTA has made significant changes in the exam format in NEET UG 2025, including the removal of optional questions and extra time in NEET UG given during the COVID-19 situation. These changes may lead to an increase in the competition in NEET UG 2025, which is making aspirants afraid. In such a situation, candidates with less preparation are taking less interest in registration this time.
3. Last Year’s Window Re-opened: Last year, the registration window was reopened, after which 1 to 1.5 lakh candidates registered, so it is possible that the candidates feel that they will register just before the last date. However, NTA has issued an advisory note regarding registration, which suggests that NTA is not in the mood to extend the deadline or open the registration window.

Impact of Lower Registration in NEET UG 2025
If the number of NEET UG 2025 registrations will not reach equal to last year’s numbers, the first impact will be on the cutoff. There is a high chance that NEET UG 2025 will be decreased. However, the changes in the exam pattern of NEET UG 2025 would also be the reason for the decrease in the cutoff.
Hurry Up If You Haven’t Registered!
If you have not registered for the NEET UG 2025 and are waiting for the last date, please don’t delay further. On the priority, go to the official website of NTA and complete your NEET UG 2025 registration process so that you can avoid the last-minute rush.
