Via these FAQs, NTA tried to give answers to questions raised by students and parents regarding the results and credibility of NTA. Let you know that it happened the first time in history when NTA had to release such type of press note with questions and answers related to the result of NEET UG.

NEET UG 2024 Result FAQs By NTA
The National Testing Agency has been conducting the NEET (UG) since 2019 with the approval of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Ministry of Education, in pursuance of the direction of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India.
The examination was conducted in 571 cities including 14 cities outside the country Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Bangkok, Colombo, Doha, Kathmandu, Kuala Lumpur, Kuwait City, Lagos, Manama, Muscat, Riyadh, Sharjah, and Singapore.
The Result of NEET (UG) – 2024 may be utilized by other Entities of Central and State Governments, in accordance with their respective eligibility criteria / other norms /applicable regulations/guidelines/ rules. The result data will also be utilized for B.Sc. (H) Nursing courses in accordance with their respective eligibility criteria / other norms /applicable regulations/guidelines/ rules. The NEET (UG) – 2024 data will also be used for admissions to BVSc & AH courses under the 15% quota of VCI in recognized Veterinary Colleges.
The responsibility of NTA is to conduct the examination and declare the result based on the eligibility criteria provided by NMC. The candidates submitted their category as per the National Category List and based on the same the result has been declared. The NTA has provided All India Rank to the candidates and the admitting Authorities will draw a merit list based on All India Rank for the seats of MBBS/BDS, etc. falling under their jurisdiction. When candidates apply to their State, they will mention their category as per the State Category List. State Counselling Authorities will accordingly make their Merit List. The same is the case with the domicile.

About 13.16 Lakh candidates were qualified.
More than 2.13 lakh examination functionaries (including City Coordinators, Centre Superintendents, Observers, Deputy Observers, Invigilators, etc.) were deployed for the smooth conduct of the NEET (UG) – 2024. In addition to this, a Central Control Room was opened to monitor and facilitate the smooth conduct of the Examination on the ground.

A few Writ Petitions were filed by the candidates of NEET (UG) – 2024 before the Hon’ble High Courts for loss of exam time in the NEET (UG) – 2024 exam at few Centres. Accordingly, a Grievance Redressal Committee was formed which considered the grievances/representations based on factual reports of the functionaries and CCTV footage from concerned exam Centres. To compensate for the loss of time, such candidates were compensated with compensatory marks.
The loss of examination time was ascertained and such candidates were compensated with marks based on their answering efficiency and time lost, as per the mechanism/ formula established by the Hon’ble Apex Court, vide its judgment dated 13.06.2018 in W.P. 551 of 2018. 1563 candidates were compensated for the loss of time.
Due to the compensatory marks, two candidates happened to secure 718 and 719 marks.
No, compensatory marks were awarded exclusively to those 1563 candidates to make up for their loss of time.
No, as previously stated, compensatory marks were solely given to address the loss of time.
To evaluate candidates’ understanding of nuclear composition and related changes, a specific question was designed for NEET (UG) – 2024 using the NCERT Physics Textbook for Class 12 (Part II). The question included Statement II: “Atoms of most of the elements are stable and emit their characteristic spectrum,” making option (Statement I correct, Statement II incorrect) the initially correct answer.
Upon receiving 27,020 answer key challenges, including 13,373 for this question, experts reviewed the ambiguity due to differences in the old and new editions of the NCERT textbook. Based on expert opinion, the answer key was updated to reflect that Statement II should be: “Atoms of each element are stable and emit their characteristic spectrum,” as per the old textbook. Consequently, two options were considered correct.
This was also done as a policy mentioned in the Information Bulletin of the NEET (UG) – 2024 i.e. “If more than one option is found to be correct then Four marks (+4) will be awarded to only those who have marked any of the correct options”.
YES, every room has a CCTV camera installed. They are used for monitoring throughout the test as well as for post-examination video evaluation to look for malpractice and cheating. Candidates found engaging in malpractice, even after the exam, are subject to punitive action.
To prevent cheating, CCTV cameras were installed in all examination halls. Biometric verification was done for the candidates. Conducted thorough frisking at entry points. Used the latest jammers to block electronic communication devices.
A Committee was constituted consisting of three eminent experts in the field of examination and academics to put forward the different types of issues reported such as Impersonation, cheating, Unfair means cases, and Tampered OMR. The committee went through the relevant issues and prepared a list of actions proposed by the committee. The total number of Unfair means cases in NEET (UG) – 2024 was 63.
On the recommendation of the Committee, a total of 12 candidates were debarred from the NEET (UG) – 2024 for 03 years, 09 candidates for 02 years, and one candidate for one year. 32 candidates were given the status of Result Later till a detailed report was received. The Committee had given its recommendation against each case.
Action taken in UFM cases is in accordance with existing rules, including the cancellation of candidature and debarment from future examinations of NTA. NTA has also registered cases against impersonators and some cases have been registered by the State Police.

25. What are the criteria for Inter-seMerit of Candidates for TieBreaking:
In case two or more candidates obtain equal marks/percentile scores in the NEET (UG) – 2024, the inter-se-merit shall be determined as follows:
a. Candidate obtaining higher marks/percentile score in Biology (Botany & Zoology) in the Test, followed by,
b. Candidate obtaining higher marks/percentile score in Chemistry in the Test, followed by,
c. Candidate obtaining higher marks/percentile score in Physics in the Test, followed by,
d. Candidate with less proportion of the number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in all the subjects in the Test,
e. Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Biology (Botany & Zoology) in the Test, followed by
f. Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Chemistry in the Test, followed by
g. Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Physics in the Test,
h. Application Number in ascending order.
The same criteria were followed for the NEET (UG) – 2023 examination.
The number of candidates who appeared in 2023 was 20,38,596, while the number of candidates who appeared in 2024 increased to 23,33,297. The increase in candidates naturally led to an increase in high scorers due to a larger pool of candidates
The NTA received 13,373 challenges to the provisional answer key of one question in Physics. Due to the differences in the old and new editions of the NCERT textbook, the Subject Expert(s) held that two options be taken as correct in place of one option for this Question.
Out of the 67 candidates who got 720/720 marks, 44 are on account of the revision in one Answer Key of Physics, and 06 are on account of compensatory marks for loss of time.
This revision led to increased marks for many candidates, contributing to the high number of perfect scores. This led to getting the full marks for 44 candidates in the NEET (UG) – 2024. This adjustment aimed to address inconsistencies in NCERT textbooks, ensuring candidates were not disadvantaged by factual discrepancies.
It is pertinent to mention that the toppers are from across the country, as highlighted in the Press Release dated 04 June 2024.
The top 100 candidates are distributed across 89 different centres located in 55 cities within 17 States/UTs of the country.
Out of these top candidates, 73 belong to the CBSE Board, while the remaining 27 are from various State Boards. This diverse distribution highlights the widespread participation and competitive spirit among students from different regions and educational backgrounds.
The NTA took several measures to maintain the integrity of the exam. This includes biometric verification, CCTV surveillance, and strict invigilation during the examination.
Post-exam, NTA conducted a thorough analysis, including a review of CCTV footage and academic background checks of top scorers of the NEET (UG) – 2024.
It is to be noted that none of the reports are backed with evidence that may indicate a paper leak. These cases seem to be related to cheating/impersonation and not to paper leaks. While the outcome of the investigation in aforesaid cases is awaited, NTA has categorically denied any case of paper leak. (Ref- Press Release dated 05.05.2024 and 06.05.2024).
Further, NTA has its own Security Protocols and Standard Operating Procedures, it has been found that all Question Papers which have been printed have been accounted for, and there is no question of Paper Leak.
NTA has recently received communication from Patna Police regarding the requirement of documents concerning certain candidates. All relevant information and documents have been proactively provided to them. NTA remains committed to fully supporting and assisting all investigations and law enforcement agencies involved in this matter.
At one of the Examination Centres, i.e. Girl’s Higher Secondary Model School, Mandir, Mantown, Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan, there was an incident of incorrect distribution of Question Papers (QPs). It was found that the Centre Superintendent had mistakenly distributed QPs intended for Hindi medium candidates to those taking the English medium exam, and vice versa. This led to agitation by some candidates, who left the examination center with question papers, despite efforts by the Centre Staff to prevent them from doing the same.
It was also found that copies of this Question Paper were circulated on social media at around 4.25 P.M., creating an impression that QP was leaked before the commencement of the examination. It is to emphasize that, even though the QP was taken out by some students and circulated on the Internet, there is no way any external person/agency could access the centres, once the examination started. Moreover, all Centres were under CCTV surveillance.
The examination of affected candidates of the aforementioned Centre at Sawai Madhopur was conducted on the same day, i.e. 05 May 2024 with the correct medium Question Paper, ensuring that their academic aspirations were not hindered by this incident.
The NTA is actively engaged with all relevant stakeholders to gather detailed information and evidence related to the alleged malpractices. Any individuals or entities found involved in such activities will be subjected to strict disciplinary action as per law.
NTA has registered cases against impersonators and some cases have been registered by the State Police. NTA has been extending support, wherever required, to the agencies investigating cases pertaining to NEET (UG) 2024.
As a policy of the NTA, the result of all NTA examinations including NEET (UG) – 2024 is declared after the Answer Key challenge period. As per our established practice, the timing of the result declaration aligns with our commitment to providing timely results as recommended by the National Medical Commission (NMC) to facilitate prompt counselling and admissions. The result date was pre-scheduled and is not connected to the general election results. The early announcement aims to expedite the counselling and admission process for the benefit of all candidates.
It is important to note that NTA consistently declares examination results within a month, whether conducted in CBT mode or offline mode.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has become aware of instances where candidates are forging their NEET (UG) – 2024 scorecards and/or OMR answer sheets, claiming that NTA has released incorrect results. The NTA wants to clarify that any manipulation or tampering with the OMR answer sheet at any stage is strictly prohibited.
As stated in the NEET (UG) information bulletin, tampering with the OMR answer sheet will result in the candidate being debarred from the examination for three years. Additionally, making fake claims by manipulating the responses in the OMR sheet, or tampering with it in any way whatsoever, either before or after the declaration of results, is a serious offense.
The NTA ensures the accuracy and integrity of all scorecards and OMR answer sheets, and any official documents should only be downloaded from the official NTA website https://exams.nta.ac.in/NEET/
Candidates are advised to refrain from any such malpractices as strict action will be taken against those found guilty.
Regarding the viral video featuring a candidate of the NEET (UG) – 2024, claiming discrepancies in NEET (UG) – 2024 scoring and receiving of the torn OMR Answer Sheet, NTA clarifies that no torn OMR Answer Sheet was sent via an official NTA ID. OMR Answer Sheet is intact and Scores are accurate as per official records. Candidates should download Scorecards only from the official website https://exams.nta.ac.in/NEET
Yes, it is true. A High-Powered Committee has been formed to revisit the cases of those candidates (approximately 1563) who were awarded compensatory marks to address the issue of time loss during the NEET (UG) – 2024 examination.
