Will NEET 2025 Have Two Phases

The NEET UG exam is expected to undergo significant changes in the upcoming attempt in 2025. Most of the changes have already been discussed in earlier blog posts, but one change is still pending: the multiple phases in NEET. Rumours are spreading that NTA will implement this change in NEET 2025, which is why aspirants are worried about it.

If you are one of these students and want to know if NEET 2025 will have two phases, we have a detailed article for you. Here, we will first understand the multiple phases in NEET and then talk about the chances of two phases in NEET 2025.

NEET Exam Pattern Till Now

Before learning about the two-phase system in NEET UG, it is essential to discuss exam patterns in the early years. So, as of now, the NEET UG exam is conducted in a single phase, with a single exam and paper PAN India in a single day. Based on this only phase of NEET, students for the medical colleges are selected.

However, after the NEET UG Image was tarnished in the 2024 attempt, the Supreme Court asked for the needed changes in NEET UG to maintain its serenity. A two-phase exam and two attempts are some of these changes.

What Do Two Phases in NEET Mean?

Two phases in NEET UG mean that the exam will be conducted in two stages: Pre and Mains. NEET UG aspirants will have to pass two qualifying exams to get into the top MBBS Colleges in India

First, students will have to appear in the pre-phase of the NEET, where the NTA will shortlist a certain number of students according to the cutoff or by any other method that will be decided. After that, the shortlisted candidates will appear in the Main NEET UG exam and fight for seats in medical colleges.

You might wonder why all this is happening. What will be the benefits of phases in NEET UG? Let’s uncover it.

Benefits of Two Phases in NEET

There are some important reasons and benefits behind conducting NEET in two stages, based on which K. Swaminathan’s committee has suggested this change in NEET UG 2025:

1. Transparency in the examination: As you all know, the NEET UG 2024 faced the allegation of a paper leak, which indicated the absence of transparency. But, with two phases of examination, it can be solved.

2. Better Screening Process: NEET UG has 25 Lakh+ applicants, one of the highest in India. It is next to impossible to monitor and screen the students that too in an offline exam properly. Two phases will help in eliminating the students in the first phase and fighting deserving candidates in the second one.

3. Exam management will be easier: After eliminating many candidates in the preliminary stage (Pre-NEET), NTA will be able to better manage the exam centres, resources, and time management for the main exam.

Will There be Two Phases in NEET 2025

Coming to the final point, will NEET 2025 have two phases? Official sources have yet to answer this question. But what about the chances of the two phases of NEET 2025?

However, he didn’t state the year from which the changes will be functional.
